Looking for a new hobby to pour your time and creativity into? Then scrapbooking may be the one you’re looking for. Evidently, it’s become one of the most popular crafts nowadays. It helps you organize your photographs, at the same time employ your artistic flair.

But you might notice that a huge part of arts and crafts shops is devoted for scrapbookers. And you might notice that the hobby can get very expensive too. For sure you have heard of hardcore scrapbookers who spend a fortune for the craft.

However, this should not be a cause of alarm and steering clear of the hobby. You can try making a scrapbook even without spending a huge amount of money for it, especially for a newcomer like yourself. You can come up with a fantastic album by using materials found in the home. And of course by using your creativity as well.

Scrapbooking papers come in all sizes and colors. And you really can recycle magazine pages or used construction papers to come up with wonderful pages for your scrapbook. Simply place photographs and embellishments strategically over parts you wish to hide. For instance, an offensive word on a magazine page or your child’s doodling.

Binding all the pages is easy as well. Some scrapbookers tend to buy off the rack albums. But it’s simply more economical to come up with your very own. For the cover, old cardboard boxes or folders will do the trick. By tearing off the contents, a binder will also make for a great cover. A touch of your inventiveness will make your scrapbook album timeless and appealing.

As with the embellishments, you can always cut colorful images from magazines. Greeting cards are another source of decorative pieces which you can cut and paste on the pages. However, be wary of where you cut your embellishments from. House guests will be enticed to look into your finished works. And imagine their surprise should they see bits and pieces from erotic comics.

For edge trimmings, you can cut into long strips unused wallpapers. Fabrics with bold patterns, colorful buttons and many others will also come in handy. You may also use actual objects appearing in the photographs used. For example, include the invitation or confetti on your daughter’s birthday party, or sands and shells from a beach vacation.

As with scrapbooking tools, there are so many of them, and some of them can cost quite a lot. But the truth is you can do without them. That is, if you know how to be resourceful and inventive. As long as you have a reliable pair of scissors and a cutter, then you’ll be just fine.

Making a scrapbook as a hobby need not be expensive. While it’s okay to look at works of others online for ideas, it pays to be innovative. After all, everyone will appreciate your creations more when they know every single thing about it is a product of your creativeness.
